August in the Carolinas

August in the Carolinas? I know it's still June so I'm not referring to the month of August. I'm writing about furniture and textile designer, Lillian August and her beautiful NC house that she decorated for friends and family to stay while attending the furniture market in High Point. What lucky friends and family! The house was recently featured in Traditional Home. I found the article while flipping through the April '13 issue and fell in LOVE with the light colored distressed finished furniture and romantic accessories, including the beautiful Italian chandelier. This house has a lot of light due to the many windows but the furnishings complete the romantic, relaxed and "happy" atmosphere. You can read more about this home and Lillian in Traditional Home Magazine. Note: Photography by Emily Followill

New kids on the block..

Newly added to the Blacklion sales floor...tan 2-drawer side table and pale blue french 2-tier round table. Both pieces are vintage...I'm guessing 1960's. Please feel free to email me if you have questions on either piece.

I'm voting for the "nutty professor"!

Have you been watching HGTV Design Star? It will be an interesting season due to one "out of the box" contestant, Brooks Atwood. This guy is innovative, funny and just loves great design! Atwood teaches industrial design at NJIT and also runs POD Design, a design company that offers services ranging from architecture, interiors and product design. He also has a masters from Columbia so he's no dummy. I can't wait to tune in tonight to see what the "nutty professor" concocts for this week. To vote for Brooks and get the latest info on HGTV Design Star, go to http://www.hgtv.com

Note: Also, you might want to check out Design Milk's article: A Day in the Life of Brooks.

Just added

I have been a little slack on adding new furniture to my space lately...only because I have been juggling multiple projects! But, I FINALLY finishing painting this white chest/dresser last week. I lined the shelves with fresh contact paper and replaced the hardware with new aqua ceramic knobs. I think it would be perfect for a kid's dresser or playroom storage. It is currently for sale ($425) in the Blacklion.

Beach house bound

A friend recently asked for my assistance in choosing some original accessories and furniture pieces for her new beach house. Well, she only had to ask me once...I went crazy searching on Etsy first thing this morning. From wall art to lighting, I found it all on Etsy and also created a nifty treasury page displaying my cool finds. Check out my treasury here and view some of my favs below.
