Refreshing the old

One of the projects that I have been working on is creating, photographing and posting items for my new Etsy store. I have MANY odds and ends from antique auctions and thrift stores that I needed to "re-purpose" so I could sell. This will be a on-going process because I still have lots more items to "refresh". We are still in the initial stage but you can check us out @ brushedbureau.etsy.com

Updates

I know I have been a little slack on blog updates lately...I've been working on several projects at once while fighting a severe head cold. But, I am happy to report that I am feeling much better this week! So, I thought I would post a quick update on these latest finished furniture pieces. The blue gray cabinet has a dark brown top with glass knobs and is currently for sale ($365.00) in Blacklion. Dimensions are 31.5" width, 31 " height and 15" deep. The beige tan cabinet with darker khaki brown top has metal ring pulls. This piece will be delivered to Blacklion next week once I clear a space for it.  Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions on either piece.

HGTV Smart Home 2013

I will definitely make a trip down to sunny Jacksonville, Fla. to see this beautiful HGTV Smart Home! I am loving the high tech features which includes lighting, thermostat, security, pool control and entertainment system operable from your smart phone, tablet and/or computer. And, from a decorator's perspective, the teal color value scattered throughout the house gives you a overall relaxed happy feeling which is perfect for a coastal home. For more info, you can check out HGTV and register to win. Good Luck!!

"Ugly Ducking" transformed....

I usually forget to take a "before" shot but this time I remembered to snap my initial photo. Check it out...this little side table was UGLY. And, thank goodness for Annie Sloan Paint because the original finish was high gloss which meant more work with traditional latex paint.

Before:

I initially painted it gray but decided to change it to a tan color. I am loving how this little side table turned out ....with undertones of the original yellow/gold and also the first coat of gray. I distressed this one more than usual because I wanted it to have the appearance of a "real" antique French piece. It originally had the French shape and curves just not the color....until I worked my magic on it.

After:

With a fresh coat of finishing wax, this baby is ready to go to a new home ... just added to the sales floor today.

Kicking it old school with mad style

In honor of season 6 of Mad Men (which airs tonight!), I thought I would post some of my favorite finds of Mid-Century Modern style furniture. I love the simple clean lines that seem to withstand the trends of the past 5 decades. Mid-Century style is making huge a come back...especially with the younger 20-30 year old generation. Some of the original pieces have become pretty costly...sometimes selling for 10 times their original price! Even if you can not afford an original piece, you can always take a step back into time by tuning in tonight. Those "Mad" set designers have every detail covered! www.amctv.com/shows/mad-men
