Anthro goes for the gold

I am in awe of Anthropologie's perfectly styled 2015 House and Home Spring Catalog. I am especially partial to the hints of gold used throughout the catalog with lighting, hardware, mirrors and even wallpaper. The warm brass and golds are popping up everywhere right now. They are making a huge comeback from the flashy 80's! However, I feel the brass is not as bold this time around because it is tastefully paired with the muted colors and popular grays of this decade. I have posted some of my Anthro favorites below....

Two tiered tray table

Check out the newest addition to Blacklion sales floor. I painted and distressed this cute little double decker tray table and papered the tray tops. This piece would make a great side table or even a bar cart if you wanted to add wheels. Love how this one turned out!

"Junk" in the Pottery Barn Trunk

My definition of "Junk" here is the original beautiful creations of the "Junk Gypsies". If you are not familiar with the Junk Gypsies, they are two highly creative designer sisters with hippie-chick style that can transform any piece of trash into beautiful works of treasure! I just learned that Pottery Barn has hired these two sisters to create a line of bedding, furniture and accessories for PB Teen. In my opinion, PB has hit a home run with the Junk Gypsy line. Slowly but surely, I have been finishing up a few pieces for the Blacklion store. Also, new merchandise that I ordered back in January has finally arrived! Thought I would share a few of my top picks:

 2-tier hexagon antique table white hand-painted and distressed. 

Perfect for a nightstand or side table.
 

 This basket was hand-painted gray with a stripe of coral pink on top.

Coral craze!

Recently, I was in Target and the color coral caught my eye in the home décor department. Target had a huge display of coral baskets, pillows, towels, etc. I also saw where Sherwin-William's 2015 color of the year is Coral Reef. Since, coral is soooo hot right now, I thought I would do some research. Here are some of my favorite inspirational finds....

Lighten up!

I thought I would write about a little project that I tackled last week. It was one of those projects that I kept putting off for weeks only because I had to educate myself on re-wiring a lamp. I am happy to report that it was a whole lot easier than anticipated! I started out with an antique lamp base (below) that I picked up at a local auction and a lamp kit that I bought from Lowes. You can pick these kits up from any hardware store.

First, I removed all the wiring from the lamp. Then, once I had "gutted" my ceramic lamp base, I sprayed it with Rust-oleum Textured (Bronze) Paint to give it a stone/concrete texture.

 Then, I dry brushed it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (Old White and Paris Gray).

 

After I finished painting the base, I sprayed it with a coat of Poly. I then researched on Pinterest, where I found so many excellent tutorials on re-wiring lighting. I also read the instructions on the back of my light kit. I am very pleased with the finished piece and I feel so liberated now that I know how to "revamp a lamp". It really was NOT a difficult project to tackle after all.
