A makeover...

I am in a hurry most of the time so I forget to take a "before" pic. However, I remembered this time! Check out this cute little oval table "before" it was painted....ugly yellow finish! And, the "after" updated result of blue gray paint with charcoal gray top. This sturdy little side table is very well made from the 1960's. This piece was made by Maslow-Freen, a high-end furniture manufacturer that catered to designers from 1950's- 70's. If you find a piece from Maslow-Freen, I would highly recommend buying it. I was so lucky to find this one. In fact, I almost kept it for myself! But, decided that I did not have the room so it is currently for sale in BlackLion.

Last few days in Rock Hill

I am sad to report that the Rock Hill store, Flutterby Interiors, is closing. Last day is this Sat.! I have marked down a lot of merchandise since it is such a pain to move everything. So, if you get a chance, stop by before Friday ( The Brushed Bureau's last day) and check out the bargains. I will definitely miss that cute store and the talented Sherri!

Sunny set on a gloomy rainy Monday

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Charlotte Today Show Set was transformed into a sunny spring setting....thanks to the decorating talents of Nita Emory (owner of Blacklion). It has been raining buckets here in Charlotte for the past two days so it was so very refreshing to see the bright blues and vibrant oranges used throughout the set. They even used ASCP in Barcelona Orange for the adorable tray on the ottoman. Most of the decor is for sale in Blacklion (Pineville). Check out the segment below:

Pointers from a painter

I thought I would share a painting tip on covering up those UGLY brown and red spots that show through the paint when painting a vintage piece. Sometimes, chalk paint will cover it up if you use several layers of paint.

However, if you want to take the easy way out...buy a spray can of shellac. I prefer Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac in Clear. Just spray it directly on the spotted area and let it dry for approx. 15 mins.

Paint back over the Shellacked area and voila....spots are gone!

The Shellac acts as a barrier. It has worked for me every single time!

Kermit's favorite color

It is that time of year when the color green starts popping up everywhere....green grass and leaves, green fashion and even green beer! However, green is rare in home decor (except for the 60s & 70s fad of avocado). I find green refreshing and love using it as pops of color to brighten up neutrals. Below are a few of my favorites....

GiGi

I don't usually name my painted furniture pieces but I could not resist with this one! I guess it was the unusual color combo of dark gray and bright green... G.G.(aka GiGi). As you can see, I am slowly breaking out of my "gray phase". GiGi is a small secretary desk that I recently transformed and is currently for sale in the Blacklion store.
