Double duty desk

I love this piece because it can be used as a desk/vanity with two hidden drawers or an entry table/buffet. I'm always thrilled when I can find an unique piece that can be used for dual purposes. Some of my customers might recognize it from the Rock Hill store. It got a little scratched up in the shop so I gave it a fresh coat of paint and it is ready for a new home. It's now for sale in Blacklion (space#370).

Awesome in Austin!

I have a new house crush....the HGTV Smart Home 2015! It's a modern version of a farmhouse. This is a completely different look from anything that HGTV has done before and it is a perfect mix of a clean modern chic style and rustic farmhouse.

The floorplan is an open space that connects living, dining, kitchen and screen porch areas. It also features wireless battery operated shades in main entry.

Lots of shiny stainless steel features in the kitchen which includes stainless steel backsplash and apron sink. Also, includes a separate prep sink which is a big plus.

Master bedroom features remote skylights and wet bar.

Loft area is an extra entertainment living space that seats up to 15 people.

For more info on this modern farmhouse home and a chance to win it, please visit HGTV.

From cabinet to cork

Since I LOVE to re-purpose, I get a lot of "hand-me-downs" or other people's junk. Although, I never really consider it as junk. My latest "hand-me-down" was this pile of old cabinet doors.

There are a ton a possibilities that you can do with re-cycling cabinets but, for now, I decided on turning these doors into cork pin boards. I painted the doors, stenciled a pattern on the cork and even made some push pins.

I believe they turned out better then anticipated! For now, I am selling them in Blacklion but I think these might work as a future Etsy item!

A Mad farewell

One of my dream jobs would be a set designer for Mad Men! I have always loved the mid-century modern style of home décor from the 1960's. The brilliant set designers for Mad Men did an excellent job of including every little detail to set the mood...from the coveted bar cart in Don Draper's office where he frequently poured himself an Old Fashioned to Peggy Olson's electric typewriter that was cutting edge technology for that time period. I have truly enjoyed watching every episode and I will definitely shed a tear as I watch Don and Roger for one more episode next week!

Words of wisdom

I love all things with positive messages...from my coffee mug to a refrigerator magnet. I believe positive quotes make an impact on our daily frame of mind....especially if we keep the positive in focus. One of my favorite gift lines that I carry in the store is Quotable mugs, wall art and magnets. I love it when customers stop to read the merchandise. I often see them smile or hear a chuckle! And, Quotable mugs, signs and magnets make perfect gifts for mom, dad or graduate!
