Magnolia can work miracles!

I am officially addicted to a TV show called Fixer-upper on HGTV! I had a ton of things to do today but I decided to take a "little 15 minute break" and watch TV....two hours later.... I am still sitting on the couch, watching a husband and wife team (Chip and Joanna Gaines) find these hopeless ugly dwellings and work total miracles renovating these homes.

My favorite episode was The Gatecrest Property (episode two) where they transformed a split level house that was STUCK in the 70s. It had awful stained carpet throughout and an eyesore of an atrium which the client keep insisting that there were reptiles living in it! The Gaines stepped up to the challege and rescued the home. The finished masterpiece is this updated modern home with an industrial twist...they even planted a little herb garden in the atrium. Check out the finished result below:

For more info on the Gaines and their company, Magnolia, check out their website here. You can also see them work their magic on HGTV's Fixer-upper. I plan on setting my DVR for future episodes!!

Funky vintage

The latest furniture addition to The Brushed Bureau is this gray and green vintage maple wood cabinet with hutch. I decided to give it a funky color scheme with mismatched hardware from Anthropologie. Lucky for me, this piece was in fairly good shape when I purchased it...it belonged to a bachelor who rarely used it. You can check it out at BlackLion (space 370).

Cooking up some re-purposing...

I found some wonderful creative ideas for re-purposing in the kitchen. Check out these light fixtures below. Although the light fixtures are genius, my favorite one is the kitchen island made from an antique buffet....great conversation piece!!

Loving the lattice!

I am usually not a fan of stencils but I decided to try it anyway. I purchased a vintage chest from an online auction a couple of weeks ago. However, when I went to pick up the piece, I was disappointed to find many dents and flaws in the chest. This sometimes happens when you purchase an antique from an online auction. You just have to take that chance sometimes! So I made the decision to cover some of the flaws with a stencil. The painting process was surprising easy...

I bought the Zamira Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils...love the Moroccan style of this lattice design.

The stencil was easy to keep in place and on track. I used white over a gray background. I am pleased with the finished piece....nice decorative storage addition to our dining room! I was able to achieve a beautiful updated chest and hide a few flaws too!

I also added this light blue french chest with original hardware...

Euro-Trash is treasure!

It has been awhile since I did a post on Annie Brahler, the super talented owner/designer of Euro-Trash. Don't let the name "Euro-Trash" fool you...there is nothing trashy about this lady's style! She was featured last summer in House Beautiful. The article displayed her beautiful updated home decor. She is still a fan of chandeliers, french antiques and large mirrors which is why I will always be a fan of hers!

Also, Check out a wedding that Euro-Trash styled. For more info, visit their website.
