Lighten up!

I thought I would write about a little project that I tackled last week. It was one of those projects that I kept putting off for weeks only because I had to educate myself on re-wiring a lamp. I am happy to report that it was a whole lot easier than anticipated! I started out with an antique lamp base (below) that I picked up at a local auction and a lamp kit that I bought from Lowes. You can pick these kits up from any hardware store.

First, I removed all the wiring from the lamp. Then, once I had "gutted" my ceramic lamp base, I sprayed it with Rust-oleum Textured (Bronze) Paint to give it a stone/concrete texture.

Then, I dry brushed it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (Old White and Paris Gray).

After I finished painting the base, I sprayed it with a coat of Poly. I then researched on Pinterest, where I found so many excellent tutorials on re-wiring lighting. I also read the instructions on the back of my light kit. I am very pleased with the finished piece and I feel so liberated now that I know how to "revamp a lamp". It really was NOT a difficult project to tackle after all.

Newbies at the Blacklion

Thought I would do a quick post on two of the new furniture pieces just added to the Blacklion sales floor. I apologize for the poor photos. I forgot my good camera so I had to use my iPhone.

I recently added this "plain jane" vintage 3-drawer chest which is distressed and painted in Old White (Annie Sloan). I added brass flower knobs that I purchased from Anthropologie to give it a little character. I also lined the drawers with fresh gold damask paper.

Another newly added piece is this oval coffee table which can be folded down if extra room is needed. It is painted in two shades of green in a chevron pattern and distressed to give it a "shabby" feel. The bottom is painted in white.

You can check out both pieces in The Brushed Bureau space #370 at the Park Rd. Blacklion location. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about either of these pieces.

Serving up a new "Fixer-Upper" season.

I finally got a chance to watch the first episode of the new season of Fixer Upper. Wow! Once again, the Gaines worked their magic and started this season off with a bang. This time they re-purposed a craftsman style house where they re-modeled every room. The "before-and-afters" are amazing! You can check it out on HGTV or at Magnolia Homes.

The Gaines unveil the finished masterpiece.

Kitchen was completely renovated.

Original fireplace which was a hidden gem before renovation.
